Yorkshire Gold....

....and silver....and bronze!

It’s hard not to have been caught up in the whirlwind that has been the Olympics over the last fortnight and here in Yorkshire we’ve been particularly proud to have nurtured some of the key award winning medallists.

Winning a total of 12 medals, it’s even been stated that if we could be classed as an independent country, we would have come 12th on the league table which is a pretty outstanding achievement.

So who do we owe our thanks to?

Achieving Gold medals were;
-        Luke Campbell from Hull in boxing
-        Nicola Adams from Leeds also in boxing
-        Jessica Ennis from Sheffield in the heptathlon
-        Alistair Brownlee from Leeds in the triathlon
-        Ed Clancy from Huddersfield in the track cycling
-        Andy Triggs-Hodge from the Yorkshire Dales in the rowing
-        Kat Copeland from North Yorkshire also in the rowing

Achieving Silver medals were;
-        Lizzie Armisted from Otley in the cycling
-        Nicola Wilson from Northallerton as part of the eventing team

Achieving Bronze medals were;
-        Ed Clancy in another cycling achievement
-        Tom Ransley from York in the rowing
-        Jonathan Brownlee from Leeds in the triathlon

If this wasn’t inspirational enough, it seems the Olympic ‘bug’ has rubbed off on the majority of us with lots of social and general media reporting on the rise of people taking up new sports – lets just hope it doesn’t wear off by the end of the school holidays!
